Zen Circus is a hung seat which allows the practice of aerial yoga, a soft, relaxing and trendy home sport. The objective of this project is to mix furniture and sport activities, in order to stay fit without buying an ugly, single-task machine.
My role was primarily to handle the technical aspects of the project, especially regarding the prototyping of the product. The dozens of hours spent working on drawings and in the workshop were totally worth it. Definitely one of my best experience as a designer.
We were excited by the shape we ended-up with after the 2D conceptualizations. It turned out it was very hard to build.
After several trials of wood bending techniques, we finally managed to constrain the planks and assembled them.
We have had the chance to manage a photo-shoot in our school, l’École de design Nantes Atlantique, so that the communication department could advertise our creation before going to Milan’s fair.
The photographs had to show Zen Circus’s utility: the hung seat give the opportunity to do yoga movements.
The "Salone del Mobile 2012" has been an unforgettable experience where we finally showed what we had been working on for 6 months. People and journalists loved Zen Circus and hearing their congrats just made the journey even more wonderful!
This unexpected worldwide visibility granted us an article in Grazia Italia magazine and a lot of emails from all around the world. An amazing number of articles also came out on the Internet. Here are a few of them:
